What’s With “bean_shadow”?
Back in high school, like many kids, I was in love with the Orson Scott Card books. In fact, his book The Speaker of the Dead helped me with my dad’s eulogy that I gave but by then I was sort of over Card and his books. I loved Ender’s Game and Ender’s Shadow, which starred a little kid named “Bean”, which was how I got the user name “bean_shadow”. I’ve just always kept this user name because, to me, it was too much of a pain in the ass to completely change to a new user name. I do have another user name set aside in case I want to change and as far as I know it does not reference near-Nazi’s.
I kind of quit reading Card when he concentrated on all the kids back on Earth because it was boring but that’s not the main reason. I quit reading Card when I realized how off the rails mentally he went after September 11, 2001. Like, way more that most people. And when I realized he was homophobic. And he was one of those evangelical Mormons that hates everyone. I have visited those two books off and on since but my heart was never really into it. Normally I can separate author from their works but not this time. I finally lost interest in Harry Potter after JK Rowling decided to try to die on a hill about the whole trans issue.
I’m not that naive to believe every comedian, author, actor, etc. is extremely liberal but Card had a tendency to shove it into everyone’s faces, as radicals tended to do after 9/11. I don’t care what a person’s belief is unless it hurts other people or they demand other people think like them.
